Job summary

Tutor in Watertown, MA is seeking an engineer to evaluate hardware, integrate it into robots, and work directly with suppliers in China. You will measure arms, actuators, sensors on the bench, review designs, and propose fixes, speaking Mandarin with suppliers.

Based in Watertown, you will spend substantial time at supplier sites; as the team grows there is room to lead other engineers. A flexible MoTS role with high technical bar and impact is expected.

Qualifications

• Proven hardware design experience with shipped products.
• Ability to read drawings and schematics and reason about tolerances.
• Experience collaborating with suppliers in China at scale.
• Fluent in Mandarin and English for technical discussions and specs.
• Strong test and measurement practices.
• Willingness to travel extensively to supplier sites (China).

Responsibilities

• Evaluate hardware components on the bench for performance and reliability.
• Review supplier designs and propose changes.
• Design mounts and interfaces to integrate hardware into robots; test under load.
• Work at supplier sites in China and coordinate with their engineers.
• Ensure our requirements are understood and met by suppliers.
• Lead prototypes and share learnings with the design team.
• Travel roughly a third to half of the time.
