Job description

Robotics | Autonomous Manufacturing | Defense Technology | New York City

Build the hardware powering the future of autonomous manufacturing.

We're partnering with a rapidly growing, defense-focused robotics startup that is redefining how advanced manufacturing systems are designed and deployed. Having already secured seven figures in revenue with a tier-one defense customer, the company is now looking for a Staff Hardware Engineer to take ownership of the technical architecture, integration, and deployment of complex robotic systems.

This is a rare opportunity to join a small, high-caliber team at an early stage and become the driving force behind hardware development. If you're an experienced robotics engineer looking to step into a broader leadership position with end-to-end ownership, this role offers a clear path toward a future Head of Hardware position.

What You'll Do
  • Own the technical architecture and deployment of robotic hardware systems from concept through field deployment
  • Design, prototype, test, and iterate robotic solutions in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Integrate commercial off-the-shelf robotic arms, sensors, and end effectors into fully operational workcells
  • Lead technically complex hardware programs from initial design through production and customer implementation
  • Drive system reliability, performance, and manufacturability in real-world operating environments
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Resolve complex technical challenges and influence engineering decisions across the organization
  • Work closely with software, controls, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams to deliver complete solutions
What We're Looking For
Experience
  • 6-12+ years of experience in robotics, automation, or hardware engineering
  • Proven track record of leading technically complex hardware programs end-to-end
  • Experience taking products from architecture and prototyping through production and deployment
  • Previous experience as a hands-on technical lead, engineering lead, or hardware manager
Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency with modern CAD platforms such as:
  • SolidWorks
  • Onshape
  • Creo
  • NX
  • Experience evaluating and integrating robotic hardware systems and end effectors
  • Deep understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including:
  • Tolerance analysis
  • GD&T
  • Materials selection
  • Fasteners and bearings
  • Actuators
  • Manufacturing processes
Leadership & Communication
  • Experience leading design reviews and technical discussions
  • Ability to navigate and resolve cross-functional engineering disagreements
  • Comfortable influencing technical direction without relying on formal authority
  • Strong ownership mentality with a bias toward execution
Why This Opportunity?
  • High-impact role with significant technical ownership
  • Join a company already generating meaningful revenue and customer traction
  • Work on cutting-edge robotics and autonomous manufacturing technology
  • Build products that solve real-world challenges in the defense sector
  • Collaborate with a small team of exceptional engineers
  • Clear opportunity to grow into a future Head of Hardware leadership position
  • Competitive compensation package with meaningful upside potential
