Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin's Applied Research Laboratories is seeking a Robotics Engineering Scientist on the Pickle Research Campus to advance robotics algorithms and software for the ATL. You will drive software development and document architectures, and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities include planning tests, deploying systems on site and during travel, and contributing to the continued advancement of robotic platforms in a federally funded environment.

Purpose

Robotics algorithm and software development for the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) of Applied Research Laboratories.

Responsibilities
  • Develop software for robotics platform.
  • Write accompanying software and architecture documents.
  • Plan and execute software testing activities.
  • Install and test systems on travel.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical area.
  • Three years of experience in robotics software development.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated strong writing and presentation skills.

Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized, capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks, and managing their time. This position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving, sound engineering judgment, and excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, and work as a team member without daily supervision. Applicant must be able to work under pressure and accept supervision with regular and punctual attendance.

US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's in engineering, computer science or other related technical area.
  • More than 3 years of experience in robotics software development.
  • Experience acting as a technical lead.Understanding of software engineering processes and standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in as many as possible of the following: Python, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, version control systems, issue tracking systems, unit testing, real-time systems, front-end web technologies, back-end web technologies.
  • Experience developing software in Linux.
  • Prior work experience in professional or research-oriented software development.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Salary Range

$104,000-$174,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications
