Job summary

Yondu AI is seeking a hands-on engineer to build and improve the tools that connect hardware, AI models, and real-world warehouse operations. You will tackle robot control, teleoperation, data annotation, and prototype hardware testing, turning experiments into reusable software for other engineers.

As we add hardware and models, you’ll own development of R&D tools and experimental systems, collaborating with AI and production engineers to move validated capabilities toward production

Qualifications

• Strong software eng skills in Python and C++ with hardware interaction.
• Understanding of robotic kinematics, coordinate frames, inverse kinematics, and motion control.
• Hands-on experience with robot arms, teleoperation, or related robotic systems.
• Experience writing and debugging CAN communication with actuators or other hardware.
• Ability to design useful experiments, define success criteria, and diagnose problems across software and hardware.
• Good engineering habits: readable code, practical tests, clear documentation, and Git branch integration.
• Comfort turning an initial prototype into a reliable tool for teammates.

Responsibilities

• Improve data annotation pipeline: clean up workflows, improve validation and labeling tools, and create useful training datasets.
• Maintain and improve teleoperation software, including input translation, smoothing, motion mapping, responsiveness and debugging tools.
• Develop and evaluate manipulation capabilities with inverse kinematics and motion control for new arms.
• Test prototype hardware: write CAN communication and hardware test code for new R&D systems; evaluate interfaces for base, lift, arm, gripper.
• Make hardware changes easier: build calibration tools and adapters to move between arms, grippers, and cameras.
• Verify real task outcomes with AI team and assess rewards against physical results.
• Measure improvements with repeatable tests isolating model, controller, and hardware changes.
• Keep R&D work reusable by shared codebase, interfaces, tests, and documentation.
