JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary

Regal Boats is seeking a motivated Robotic Path Programmer to develop, operate, and optimize robotic systems used to build our boats. This role is responsible for generating precise robotic paths using offline programming (OLP) software and physical teach pendants for automated coating, trimming, grinding, and machining of complex fiberglass components.

The ideal candidate has experience with industrial robotics, automated spraying, robotic trimming or grinding, or robotic machining, and enjoys working hands-on in a production environment. This position will support the implementation and programming of Regal’s new Trim & Grind robotic systems, working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to optimize robotic paths, quality, and production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Robotics Programming and Simulation
  • Import 3D CAD models and mold geometry into Offline Programming (OLP) software to generate, simulate, and optimize precise robotic toolpaths.
  • Perform reachability studies, singularity checks, and collision detection in a virtual environment prior to deploying code to the physical robot.
  • Translate virtual paths into functional robot code, minimizing physical touch-up time on the production floor.
  • Program and fine-tune robot movements, including speed, distance, orientation, overlap, and spray parameter, to optimize material coverage, thickness, finish, and overall quality.
  • Maintain and adapt robotic programs for both new and existing parts, adjusting for changes in part designs, molds, materials, and production requirements.
  • Develop, test, and optimize robotic programs for automated trimming and grinding of fiberglass components, including robotic paths, tool orientation, and cutting parameters.
  • Process Optimization & Quality
  • Monitor robotic spray applications to identify inconsistencies, defects, overspray, or coverage issues.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust robotic paths and application parameters to resolve quality concerns.
  • Work with engineering and production teams to improve cycle time, material usage, transfer efficiency, and overall process performance.
  • Conduct testing and validation of new robotic programs before implementation in production.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of robotic programs, process parameters, and changes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to robotic automation and gelcoat application.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certification in robotics, automation, engineering, manufacturing, or a related field preferred
  • Experience programming or operating industrial robots in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with robotic path programming, motion programming, or automated spray applications preferred.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings, part geometry, and manufacturing specifications,
  • Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to make precise adjustments to robotic movements and application parameters.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent quality.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn specialized robotic programming software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with Offline Programming software to generate robot paths from 3D CAD models. Roboguide preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with robotic spraying, gelcoat, paint, fiberglass, composites, or other automated coating applications.
  • Strong proficiency with FANUC robotics and software ecosystems, specifically ROBOGUIDE and PaintPRO.
  • Experience integrating or programming robotic VISION systems (e.g., FANUC iRVision, 2D/3D part localization) for dynamic path adjustments.
  • Experience programming robotic trimming, routing, milling, or waterjet cutting applications.
  • Knowledge of machining parameters (feeds, speeds, tooling) specifically for cutting fiberglass or composites.
  • Experience with robotic systems used in manufacturing or material application.
  • Experience with ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa, or similar industrial robots.
  • Experience optimizing spray patterns, robot paths, cycle times, and material usage.
  • Knowledge of boat manufacturing, fiberglass, composites, gelcoat, or marine production.
  • Experience with automated manufacturing systems and process improvement.
  • Familiarity with CAD software or 3D modeling.
