Job summary

Adams County seeks Highway Worker I–III to perform a range of semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties in the Public Rights of Way. Availability for shift work, on-call, and stand-by calls is required, especially during weather events.

Pay ranges are published for each level: I $23.26–$32.57, II $26.14–$36.60, III $31.13–$43.59. Start level depends on experience, licensing, and certifications; roles involve operating light to heavy equipment on county projects.

Qualifications

  • Formal or informal education ensuring reading/writing ability is required.
  • Two-level required: read/write at a level for job performance; DOT licensure/certification depending on level.
  • Education and training emphasize maintenance, traffic control, and highway worker responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment as part of street and highway operations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
  • Respond to public inquiries and provide information as assigned.
  • On-call for emergency/disaster situations including winter snow operations.
  • Erect and maintain temporary traffic controls and warning signs at job sites.
