Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation in Columbia is seeking a skilled maintenance worker to operate heavy equipment such as boom trucks, snooper trucks, crawler cranes, pavers and milling machines, and to assist in emergency operations. Performs bridge maintenance and supports other heavy equipment tasks as needed.

Two years of related experience or equivalent is required, plus a valid operator’s license on entry with CDL in six months.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license on entry and obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Responsibilities

• Operate specialized heavy equipment including boom truck, snooper truck, crawler crane, paver and milling machine.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; operate medium or heavy duty equipment such as tandem dump trucks with snow plows and spreaders, and motor graders.
