Job summary

Alachua County is seeking an employee for semi-skilled manual labor in Public Works. The role involves conduct of construction, maintenance, and repair on county infrastructure under supervision as needed, including storm sewer and street work.

A valid Florida driver license and clean MVR are required and safety screenings are mandatory. Emergency essential status applies; you may be called to work during disasters.

Qualifications

• Completion of eighth grade or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• A valid Florida Driver License is required with a Motor Vehicle Record meeting Alachua County policies.
• Pre-employment drug screen, physical examination, and background checks required.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled labor in construction, maintenance, and repair on County property, buildings, and bridges.
• Operate light equipment, air compressors, pneumatic tools, and hand tools for storm sewer, bases, and street work.
• Assist as lead worker in absence of supervisor and follow defined procedures and schedules.
• Transport light equipment to worksites using pickup trucks (with or without trailers).
• Participate in gardening and beautification projects such as flower beds.
