Job summary

Lubbock County is seeking an Equipment Operator I to operate a range of road maintenance equipment and perform essential construction tasks on county roads, bridges, and rights of way. The role includes traffic control, daily record-keeping, and routine equipment inspections.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of related experience, and a valid driver's license (CDL with endorsements preferred).

Qualifications

• Requires a High School diploma or GED.
• One year of experience in construction, maintenance, or repairs of roadways, bridges, and operating heavy and light construction equipment or related experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license; CDL with endorsements preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drives and operates light and heavy equipment including backhoes and dozers.
• Performs traffic control at the job site.
• Maintains daily records of team performance and materials used.
• Conducts pre- and post- vehicle/equipment inspections.
• Repairs signs, culverts, and applies asphalt.
• Assists with road base preparation and patching.
• Responds to emergencies and may work weekends as needed.
