Job summary

Volkert is seeking a Roadway Engineer for the Gulf Region, supporting Birmingham, Huntsville, and surrounding Alabama areas. You will contribute to the design of highways and streets, drainage, and project displays while coordinating with a team on schedules and deliverables.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, 1–5 years of experience, and familiarity with state/FHWA standards, with proficiency in MS Office and design software. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 1–5 years of experience.
• EI Certification or PE License (if eligible).
• Familiarity with state and FHWA design standards.
• Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Experience with MicroStation, ArcGIS, InRoads, and OpenRoads Designer.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel overnight.

Responsibilities

• Engineering design including geometric design of highways and streets, drainage design (hydrology and hydraulics).
• Prepare construction plans and project displays.
• Assist in roadway plan set design & production including roadway alignments, cross-sections, drainage, maintenance of traffic and erosion and sedimentation control.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates, reports, and technical memos.
• Prepare memorandums summarizing analysis work.
