Job summary

About Us in the Gulf Region of Alabama is seeking a Roadway Engineer to contribute to geometric design of highways and streets, drainage analysis, and construction plan preparation. You will help produce roadway alignments, cross-sections, drainage designs, and traffic maintenance details while supporting cost estimates and technical memos.

The role requires 1–5 years of experience, a civil engineering degree, and familiarity with state and FHWA standards; proficiency in MicroStation, ArcGIS,

Roadway Engineer – Gulf Region (Birmingham, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, AL)

We are currently searching for a highly motivated Roadway Engineer to join our Gulf Region.

What you’ll be doing:

• Engineering design including geometric design of highways and streets, drainage design (hydrology and hydraulics)
• Prepare construction plans and project displays
• Assist in roadway plan set design & production including roadway alignments, cross-sections, drainage, maintenance of traffic and erosion and sedimentation control
• Assist in preparing cost estimates, reports, and technical memos
• Prepare memorandums summarizing analysis work

What you need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• 1–5 years of experience
• EI Certification or PE License (if eligible)
• Knowledge of fundamental transportation standards
• Familiarity with state and FHWA design standards, guidelines, and policies
• Proficient in the use of MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
• Experience with computer programs such as MicroStation, ArcGIS, InRoads, various CAD, and OpenRoads Designer
• Self-motivated to meet individual goals and maintain accountability in a team environment
• Able to maintain project schedules, which may require occasional extended hours and overnight travel
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• General interpersonal skills including active listening, teamwork, responsibility, dependability, leadership, motivation, flexibility, and patience
• ALDOT or local government design experience preferred

• Valid driver’s license
• A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
