Job summary

CDM Smith in Hawaii seeks a field inspector to perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, under direct supervision. The role involves reading plans, coordinating with engineers, and ensuring compliance with project specs on highway sites.

You will review contractor daily reports, verify quality control procedures, and assist with sampling and in‑place testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI or NICET in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• 2 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on duties and workload.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of a project under direct supervision.
• Determine the acceptability of the day‑to‑day work performed by the contractor. Review and recommend acceptance or rejection of daily reports, inspect QC procedures and material testing, ensure conformance with QC Plan.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to the contract; measure quantities; may perform sampling and in‑place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt pavement.
