Iowa DOT’s Design Bureau in Ames, IA is seeking a roadside design intern to support landscape design, erosion control, and vegetation management for state roadsides. You will participate in field work, inspections, and preparing plans using GIS and CADD software.

The internship starts in early May, requires enrollment in a 2- or 4-year university in Iowa, access to a valid driver's license, and the ability to report to Ames regularly. No relocation funding provided.

Location: Design Bureau, Ames, IA

Shift Requirements: Days, Monday through Friday.

The Design Bureau is looking to hire a roadside design intern to work alongside a team of full-time landscape design, erosion control, and vegetation management professionals to help to enhance Iowa’s roadsides. In this position, you will be responsible for assisting in developing projects by conducting field work and inspections, creating maps using GIS and CADD software, producing plans, and developing special roadside projects based on your education, skills, and the needs of the section.This position requires strong communication skills and the desire to learn about Iowa’s native plant communities, transportation safety and roadside issues including erosion control strategies and landscape design. Student intern must be located in Iowa during the work period hired for, and able to report to the Ames, IA location on a regular basis (no relocation funding provided). Student must be actively enrolled in a 2- or 4- year university and recent graduates are not eligible. Requires valid Driver’s License. Position will start in early May.
