Job summary

AAA Northeast is seeking a Battery Service Technician in Peabody, MA. You will respond to member requests, perform diagnostics on vehicle electrical systems, and provide battery testing and on-site installations.

Compensation

Pay range: $23.50 - $26.45 /hour. Base pay may vary depending on knowledge, skills, shift differentials and experience. Annual bonuses are offered. Employees may participate in award‑winning medical, dental, vision, wellness, financial (6% 401k match), and a wide array of other benefits.

Shift Differentials

Additional $2.75 per hour for overnight shift (10pm-6am), $1.75 per hour for evening shift (6pm-10pm), $1 per hour for weekend hours. Differentials can be combined.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday 12:30 PM – 11:00 PM

What You Will Do
  • Respond to member’s request for service.
  • Accept calls and respond to dispatch or members with ETA to destination; call members to clarify location and potential vehicle issue when appropriate.
  • Locate members and assess safety of scene on arrival to ensure the vehicle is in a safe location to provide service and does not endanger the member or traveling companions.
  • Greets members and takes action, as necessary, to deal with their emotional state (e.g., calming an angry member, providing reassurance and advice to a fearful or anxious member).
  • Effectively communicate all aspects of the battery program to the member, including the importance of testing, program benefits, and recommending the appropriate battery type.
  • Report results of all diagnostic testing to the member, explaining potential additional repairs and providing referrals to AAR‑approved facilities.
  • Maintain minimum performance standards in conversion, testing, and installs.
  • Provide efficient minor mechanical assistance (if trained and equipped) and battery service.
  • Respond to dispatch calls and perform diagnostic testing on a variety of disabled vehicle systems, including electrical, battery, starting, charging, ignition, and fuel delivery.
  • Make a preliminary determination of the best course of action based on all information collected; ask for assistance if unsure about a situation.
  • Perform battery testing on member’s vehicles with specialized equipment; if necessary, maintain battery terminals, determine need for boosting or replacement, provide battery boost, and install appropriate batteries on the spot, following all safety procedures in accordance with club policies. Call for tow if towing is required.
  • Maintain AAA’s high standard of service and image.
  • Maintain service vehicle and equipment in safe working order, conduct safety checks, and maintain an inventory of tools and products to ensure all service calls can be completed.
  • Follow temporarily repaired vehicles to ensure member safety or transport members to their destination if the vehicle is to be towed, in accordance with club policies.
  • Operate laptop computer to record van activity, invoicing, cash and credit receipts, and inventory.
  • Inspect and maintain the appearance and general mechanical condition of the assigned vehicle; restock sold batteries, test new stock, dispose of obsolete batteries following hazardous waste procedures, and inventory all electronic testing equipment.
  • Certify operation of a Battery Service Vehicle by attending required training and completing annual refreshers.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High School GED required.
  • At least 21 years of age required.

Experience:

  • Post‑secondary training in automotive mechanics and familiarity with electrical troubleshooting is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Active and valid driver’s license issued by only one state or jurisdiction required.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a minimum of one‑year DOT card before hire and as a current employee required.
  • Satisfactorily pass a motor vehicle record check during pre‑hire screening and periodically during employment in accordance with policy required.
