Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Full-time Construction Inspector Trainee for our Asheville, NC office. You will support the Construction Management Team, interpreting plans and schedules, while learning field inspection and testing procedures.

You will assist with surveying, material sampling, and data processing, ensuring safety and compliance with project plans. The role requires strong communication, record-keeping, and the ability to work independently or in a team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• 0–2 years of road and bridge construction inspection and testing experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Ability to attain NCDOT certifications within ~90 days depending on schedule (Concrete Field Technician, Conventional Density, Level II Erosion & Sediment Control/Storm Water, QMS Roadway Technician, ABC and Borrow Pit Sampling).
• Ability to keep accurate records and compute field data.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
• General awareness of construction inspection principles and codes.
• Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team and follow company policies.
• Proficiency with basic office software and tools.
• Ability to perform physical activities involved in testing/inspection.

Responsibilities

• Examine and interpret construction plans, schedules and quantities.
• Support senior project inspectors in construction inspection, surveying and material sampling/testing.
• Verify that work is performed safely per plans and specs.
• Perform standardized and non-standardized tests and compile field data.
• Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
