Job summary

Delaware County in Ohio seeks an incumbent for maintenance, construction, and repair of County roads, bridges, and culverts using hand and power tools, small machines, and light to medium equipment. You will be part of a work crew, reporting to the Crew Leader - Roadway or the Assistant Superintendent of Roads.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of relevant roadway maintenance or construction experience, plus a valid Ohio Class B CDL with a clean driving

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year road maintenance experience.
• Valid Ohio Class B CDL with acceptable driving record.
• Overtime is mandatory and a condition of continued employment.

Responsibilities

• Operates light to medium equipment to perform construction, repair, and maintenance on County road, bridge systems.
• Transports tools, supplies, and materials to job sites as directed.
• Performs manual labor such as pothole filling, paving, and brush clearing.

Job description

Incumbent is responsible for performing unskilled to semi-skilled routine labor tasks for the maintenance, construction and repair of County roads, bridges, and culverts using a variety of hand and power tools, small machines, and light to medium equipment. Incumbent works as a member of a designated work crew. Reports to the Crew Leader - Roadway or the Assistant Superintendent of Roads. High school education or equivalent plus a minimum of one (1) year relevant work experience in general roadway maintenance, construction and / or the operation of medium to heavy duty truck. Must posses a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License with a Class B Endorsement and an acceptable driving record. Overtime is mandatory and a condition of continued employment. Must maintain a telephone at place of residence and be available for work on short notice and outside scheduled work hours.

• Operates light to medium equipment, such as power saws, weed eaters, chain saws, jack hammer, compactor, etc. to perform construction, repair, and maintenance work for County roadway and bridge systems to include loading/unloading dirt, spreading gravel, stone, mix and/or tar, establishing level and/or grade, repairing / installing culverts, digging footers, backfilling, signing, painting, and other similar activities;
• Transports tools, supplies, and materials to and from various job sites as directed;
• Performs manual labor tasks, such as loading / unloading trucks, patching roads, filling potholes, sealing pavement, cutting brush and trees, mixing and pouring concrete, cleaning culverts;
• Inspects, maintains and replaces roadway signs and related components, clears brush and other obstructions to alleviate problems of visibility of signage, erects and inspects various warning and detour signs;
• Performs flagging activities to control traffic flow as directed;
• Performs snow removal activities and spreads salt/grit mixture for snow and ice control as assigned;
• Performs preventive maintenance to tools and equipment to include cleaning, lubricating, adding fluids and performing routine adjustments;
• Performs general custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, and/or cleaning of facilities;
• Performs general maintenance and repair of facilities.
