Job summary

Powell County is seeking a Road Crewmember for Helmville / Ovando, Montana. This permanent, full-time role offers $24.35/hour with a $2 raise after 6 months. Primary responsibilities include maintenance of county equipment, site traffic control, and road construction tasks.

Requirements include being 18 or older and possessing a commercial driver’s license; previous experience with heavy equipment is preferred. Be prepared for on-call emergency responses as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.

• Experience operating dump trucks, sanders, graders, front end loaders, belly dump, and snowplows preferred.

Responsibilities

• Care for county equipment: check fluids, lubrication, tire pressure.
• Provide cleanup and minor maintenance to county shop facilities and grounds.
• Report deficiencies of maintenance items, cleaning supplies, toiletries, etc.
• Control traffic around work sites.
• Load and haul rocks, gravel, dirt, asphalt, etc.
• Patch and construct roads, operate roller, asphalt distributor, loader, trucks, snow plows.
• Operate bulldozer, graders, and other equipment as needed.
• Perform drainage and ditch work, digs holes, sets poles, builds fence.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provides care of county equipment, checks fluid levels, lubrication, tire pressure, etc.


• Provides cleanup and minor maintenance to county shop facilities and grounds.


• Reports all deficiencies of maintenance items, cleaning supplies, toiletries, etc.


• Controls traffic around work sites


• Loads and hauls rocks, gravel, dirt, asphalt, etc.


• Patches and constructs roads and streets, shovels mix, rakes, compacts, etc., operates roller, asphalt distributor, front- end loader, trucks, sanders and snow plows.


• Works as operator of bull dozer, graders and other equipment.


• Perform drainage and ditch work, digs holes, sets poles, builds fence, etc.


• Responds to emergency calls on nights and weekends as required.

Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older


• Must possess a commercial driver's license


• Experience operating equipment such as dump trucks, sanders, graders, front end loaders, belly dump, and snowplows preferred.


• Must be capable of performing a full range of physical demands in order to respond to emergency situations.


• Knowledge of road and bridge program.


• Knowledge of equipment pre-operation procedures.


• Color vision needed to read color coded gauges on front-end loader, to drive trucks, and to operate equipment.


• Hearing must be sufficient to receive verbal instructions.
