Job summary

Mercy STL Wound is seeking a dedicated nurse to provide comprehensive wound and ostomy care. This full-time day position requires prescribing, delegating, coordinating, and overseeing nursing care for a select group of patients with complex wounds in a fast-paced clinical setting.

You will assess wounds, develop and implement treatment plans, monitor infections, and educate other healthcare team members on best wound care practices. Mercy offers strong benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current, active RN license in the hiring state or compact state; must maintain licensure.
• WCC or WOCN certification required.
• Regularly lift up to 50 pounds; standing and walking throughout shifts.

Responsibilities

• Prescribe, delegate, coordinate, and oversee nursing care for wound/ostomy patients.
• Assess and monitor complex wounds and develop treatment plans.
• Identify and monitor signs of infection and manage wounds safely.
• Care for surgical wounds, ulcers, decubitus ulcers, feeding tube sites, and abscesses.
• Educate clinical staff on proper wound care practices.

Job description

Responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating and coordinating the nursing care provided to a select group of patients for wound and ostomy care within the context of the organizations and nursing services. Wound care nurses specialize in the proper management of wound care by treating and monitoring wounds that are the result of disease, injury, or medical treatments. The job requires that a wound care nurse provides care that will optimally and safely heal various types of wounds, including but not limiting surgical openings, ulcers, decubitus ulcers, feeding tube sites, and abscesses. Their work requires that they access the wounds, create and implement treatment plans, monitor infections and signs of various infections, and clean wounds. The nurses must also have advanced skills to assess symptoms that require management of complex wounds. Wound care nurses will also educate other healthcare members in the area of proper wound care.

Required Education

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing:

Required Licensure

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the hiring state and/or compact state licensure.
• Must maintain licensure and meet all applicable State Board of Nursing requirements.

Required Certification

• WCC (Wound Care Certified) or WOCN (Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse) certification.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds.
• Prolonged standing and walking throughout shifts.
• Ability to:
