Advocate Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Heart Center/Urology unit in Illinois. The RN will assess patients, develop and implement care plans, and administer medications per physician orders. Strong clinical skills, CPR, and IL licensure required.

Major Responsibilities: Patient care needs are assessed in a systematic manner in order to develop a plan of care considering age-specific needs 1) Interviews and obtains history utilizing direct and indirect sources of data. 2) Assesses patients in a systematic way and documents appropriately 3) Identifies learning needs of patient/family 4) Identifies discharge needs 5) Anticipates and identifies changes in patient condition and takes appropriate action. Develop an individualized plan of care based on physical, psychosocial and age specific patient assessment 1) Initiates a plan of care for each patient and establishes practices for patient care 2) Involves patient/family in plan of care. 3) Identifies hospital and community resources appropriate for planning care and discharge 4) Incorporates range and treatment needed by patient. 5) Identifies need for and participates in patient care conferences 6) Initiates collaboration of referrals with other members of the health care team for the purpose of coordinating direct patient care efforts and / or operating as the patient’s advocate. Appropriate nursing interventions are performed based on the assessed patient needs 1) Administers medications according to approved policy and procedure and physician order. 2) Performs therapeutic measures prescribed by physician 3) Issues implementation of physician’s orders 4) Performs skills identified on skills inventory 5) Provides patient/family teaching 6) Delegates to and supervises appropriate caregivers. 7) Maintains accurate, pertinent and complete records of nursing observations and interventions in accordance with policies and procedures 8) Performs other duties as assigned Effectiveness of nursing interventions is evaluated 1) Modifies the plan of care to reflect changing outcomes and needs 2) Analyses the effectiveness of nursing interventions 3) Participates in quality efforts through CQI programs and projects A therapeutic and safe environment is monitored and maintained according to hospital departmental and unit policies, procedures and guidelines. 1) Provides a safe environment based age and development status of patient population 2) Initiates safety measures based on patient assessment. 3) Evaluates environmental safety and reports any unsafe conditions 4) Anticipates emergencies and takes appropriate action. 5) Demonstrates proper knowledge and use of patient related equipment 6) Ensures a clean, well stocked, orderly unit environment 7) Adheres to guidelines of regulatory agencies Professional and leadership qualities are demonstrated 1) Assess self-learning needs and sets ways to fulfill them 2) Adapts to change, shifting priorities and ambiguity on daily operational issues 3) Provides supervision to licensed and unlicensed personnel 4) Implements the philosophy, goals and objectives of Advocate Illinois Masonic 5) Demonstrates flexibility in meeting staffing and scheduling requirements 6) Participates in staff meetings and hospital committees

Licensure: Nurse, Registered (RN) Education/Experience Required: Effective January 1, 2012:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Education requirememnt if hired prior to 01/01/2012:
• Graduate from accredited school of nursing
• Board Certification by 12/31/2015 or within two years of hire Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
• Clinically appropriate skills
• Courteous and professional interpersonal skills
• Communication skills
• Knowledge of basic computer keyboard functions
• Current RN license in State of Illinois
• Evidence of CPR course completion Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Ability to demonstrate a commitment to patient-focused care
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints and in difficult situations
• May be exposed to hazardous substances and life-threatening diseases
• Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50-100 lbs occasionally and or 25-50 lbs frequently and 10-20lbs constantly)
• May involve standing, stooping and bending for extended periods
• This position can recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
