Job summary

The Minnesota Veterans Home (MVH)-Bemidji is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor to lead the nursing unit on day shift. This role supervises Licensed Practical Nurses and Nursing Assistants, ensures compliance with MDS/RAI processes, and provides clinical guidance to daily operations.

Eligible candidates must be licensed in Minnesota, with 4+ years RN experience (2 in long-term care), CPR/BLS, and strong leadership and documentation skills.

Qualifications

  • Minnesota RN license with no restrictions and in good standing.
  • Minimum 4 years as an RN, incl. 2 years in long-term care; bachelor’s or master’s can substitute portions of experience.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification.
  • Knowledge of MDS/RAI processes and ability to obtain MDS/RAI certification during probation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and staff supervision abilities.
  • Proficient documentation and computer skills, incl. EHR systems.

The Responsibilities Of The Position Include
  • Supervising Licensed Practical Nurses and Human Services Technicians-Certified Nursing Assistants to ensure employees effectively perform assigned job duties.
  • Guiding and coordinating with staff on completing the MDS/Resident Assessment Instrument per regulatory guidelines.
  • Providing clinical guidance, oversight and support for the daily operations of the nursing unit.
  • Providing guidance to the nursing department team regarding state and federal regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing.
  • Four years of experience as a RN*, including two years of RN experience in a long‑term healthcare setting. (*Note: A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of the RN experience requirement. A Master’s degree in nursing may substitute for 18 months of the RN experience requirement.)
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of Minimum Data Set (MDS) and Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) processes sufficient to obtain MDS/RAI certification within the probationary period.
  • Human relations and leadership skills sufficient to effectively direct, guide, influence and supervise nursing department staff.
  • Communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively with others and prepare and present information to various individuals and groups.
  • Skills in clinical documentation and computer applications, including an electronic health record system such as PointClickCare, to document and ensure staff are documenting resident care in an accurate, complete and timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supervising other nursing staff and performing supervisory responsibilities, such as hiring and employee performance management.
  • Experience leading other nursing staff as a charge/lead nurse.
  • Bachelor or advanced degree in nursing.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to skilled nursing facilities and state survey.
  • Experience facilitating a quality assurance/improvement project and knowledge in healthcare‑related quality data measures.
  • Leadership experience in a union environment.
Additional Requirements
  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x‑ray) is required prior to employment.
