Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Nursing Transfer Center. The role requires an active RN license and at least five years of nursing experience, with preferred BSN or ASN (or diploma) and ongoing BSN completion. A Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

The position involves leadership, collaboration with the health care team, and ongoing professional development to support safe patient transfers and high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Five (5) years nursing experience.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Care Delivery Systems- Use of competent clinical practice and critical thinking skills to efficiently transfer patients to facility while maximizing efficient use of resources.
  • Leadership- Possesses the interpersonal skills to positively and effectively communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Professional Growth- Motivation and drive for continuous development of self.
  • Collaborative Practice- Cooperatively interacts with the health care team to support and contribute to the shared group goals.
  • Adequately acquires needed assessment information to facilitate appropriate and safe patient transfers from outside facilities.
  • Demonstrates ability to synthesize patient data into a relevant problem focus, identifying potential complications and necessary interventions specific for patient bed placement over telephone by identifying Correct service for patient’s needs as well as correct bed placement assignment.
  • Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and/or management, as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Answers the telephone in a courteous, timely manner. Screens and refers all incoming phone calls to ensure accurate and timely communications.
  • Uses established patient care support systems including documentation, communication, & information.
  • Assumes responsibility for the development of others.
  • Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development.
  • Fosters the integration of staff and/or students into the health care team. Facilitates incorporation of the unit's mission, values, and vision.
  • Functions to promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level.
  • Engages in exchange of information relevant to specific patient assignment.
  • Interacts with various members of the health care team to meet patient care needs.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
