vTech Solution is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the surgical acute unit in Hawaii. The role focuses on preoperative and postoperative care for adults, including abdominal procedures, with emphasis on monitoring, documentation in EMR, and teamwork in a fast-paced setting.

The position requires Hawaii RN licensure, BLS/ACLS, and 2+ years in surgical acute care. Night shifts are three 12-hour periods weekly, with potential for unit floating.

Qualifications

• Active Hawaii RN license by start of assignment.
• Minimum 2 years preoperative and postoperative surgical acute care experience, abdominal surgeries.
• BLS and ACLS certifications are required, with proficiency in medical devices.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for adult surgical patients in preop and postop phases.
• Monitor vitals, manage IV and PCA pumps, and document in EMR.
• Operate surgical and monitoring equipment such as Pyxis and vital signs devices.
• Care for abdominal surgeries including lap chole, appendectomy, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, chest tubes.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to plan individualized patient care.
• Float to other units as needed to support patient care.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the surgical acute unit is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to adult patients undergoing various surgical procedures. This role focuses on preoperative and postoperative care, including management of abdominal surgeries and related treatments. The nurse will utilize clinical skills and specialized equipment to monitor patient status, administer treatments, and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult surgical patients, including preoperative and postoperative management.
• Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and manage IV and PCA pumps.
• Utilize electronic medical records (WOWS/EMR) for accurate documentation and charting.
• Operate and maintain surgical and monitoring equipment such as vital signs machines and Pyxis medication systems.
• Manage care for patients with abdominal surgeries including lap cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, chest tubes, and drains.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
• Float to other units or departments as required to support patient care needs.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Hawaii by the start of assignment.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in preoperative and postoperative nursing, specifically in abdominal surgeries and surgical acute care.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Proficiency in using vital signs machines, IV and PCA pumps, EMR systems, and medication dispensing systems like Pyxis.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with surgical nursing in a hospital setting.
• Knowledge of additional surgical procedures and postoperative complications management.

Special Considerations:

• Must obtain and maintain an active Hawaii RN license if not currently licensed.
• Assigned to three 12-hour night shifts per week.
• May be required to float to other units or departments as needed.
• Nurse to patient ratio typically 1:5-6.
• Regular nursing uniform dress code.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour night shifts per week.
• Shift assignments may include floating to different units or departments.
