Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and unit-specific competencies to assess patient needs and develop plans of care in collaboration with the inter-professional team.
  • Monitors compliance with standards of care through observation, reports, audits, and documentation with feedback to leaders and team members.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence and maintains composure during conflict; serves with integrity and sets a positive example.
  • Provides input and supports department leaders in interviewing and hiring, appraisal, and retention of team members.
  • Assists with strategic planning, change management, and aligning day-to-day work with organizational goals.
  • Provides constructive feedback and maintains confidentiality while fostering cross-boundary relationships.
  • Plans total care needs in collaboration with the inter-professional team to achieve high-quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and performs all functions of the professional clinical nurse as age-appropriate and culturally sensitive.
  • Maintains positive relationships with physicians and other team members to problem solve and improve patient care.
  • Collaborates on schedules, monitors staffing levels, and participates in budget considerations to optimize productivity and maintain care quality.

Job description

Hours for this Supervisor role are either 10a-6p or 11a-7p M-F. Must be able to accommodate later or weekend hours as needed to meet business operations.

This 19 bed unit serves a great purpose in the community treating various health needs. Our compassionate team is comprised of Psychiatric hospitalists, RN's, CNA's, Occupational Therapists, mental health therapists, utilization specialists, and administrative professionals. This environment allows for collaboration and learning on a daily basis. Our team is dedicated to the highest quality of care and fosters great learning opportunities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Utilizes the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and unit-specific competencies to assess the physical condition and nursing needs of patients, and develops a plan of care in a collaborative practice with the inter-professional team.
  • Monitors compliance with standards of care by observation, verbal reports, audits, and written documentation, with feedback loops to department leaders, providers, and team members.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence and confidence and maintains composure during conflict. Serves with integrity and sets a positive example at all times.
  • Provides input and supports the department leaders in interviewing and hiring, appraisal performance, mentoring, motivating, coaching, and retention of team members.
  • Acts strategically, understands and can manage change, and assists team members through transitions. Advocates for stakeholders to meet strategic goals, and assists team members in understanding how their day–to-day jobs contribute to organizational strategy.
  • Provides feedback to peers in a constructive manner, keeps information confidential, and develops and maintains lateral, cross-boundary relationships.
  • Plans for the total care needs of the patient in collaboration with the inter-professional team to provide the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in the clinical specialty of assigned responsibility with the ability to perform all functions of the professional clinical nurse that are age appropriate and culturally specific.
  • Provides consultation and maintains positive relationships with physicians and other inter-professional team members, collaborating to problem solve and improve patient care.
  • Collaborates on department/clinic schedules, monitors staffing levels, and provides input to the budget preparation/monitoring and the identification of workload variability to predict and plan for appropriate staffing to enhance productivity/efficiency and maintain quality care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or commitment to obtain BSN within five years for current ThedaCare RNs
  • Current Wisconsin RN license
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Three years of clinical experienceTwo years of experience leading projects, a council/committee, and/or clinical improvement work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of Fifty (50) pounds without assistance
  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
  • Occasional high noise level in work environment
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
  • Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time
  • Transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another; little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed
  • Occasional contact with aggressive and combative patients.
