Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH, is seeking an RN Student Nurse Extern for our Float Pool. This PRN opportunity lets you gain hands-on experience while supporting the nursing team in delivering safe, compassionate care to patients.

You’ll work under supervision, perform basic nursing tasks, document care, and engage in learning opportunities to build your personal career plan as you progress through your nursing program.

Qualifications

• Active enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program and completion of nursing fundamentals course.
• BLS required within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including ADLs, vital signs, mobility support, and comfort/hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and basic procedures as experience grows.
• Document care accurately and communicate updates with the nursing team to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and guidance for health and recovery.
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas following infection prevention practices and manage equipment.
• Engage in learning opportunities and collaborate with supervisor/preceptor to build career development.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands‑on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Actively enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program (RN) and completion of nursing fundamentals course
• No previous work experience required
