Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking an RN Staff Nurse to join the Surgery, Cosmetic and Plastic Reconstruction practice in West County. Schedule: Monday through Friday daytime clinic hours (6:30 AM–4:30 PM).

No nights, weekends, or on‑call requirements. The RN will work with two seasoned nurses, a medical assistant, and surgeons to master specialized skills in breast reconstruction and cosmetic procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with Compact Act.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care.
  • Provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.
  • Provides appropriate counsel and education to patients/families regarding disease process and symptom management.
  • Maintains medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.
  • Consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Assists the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills and other processes related to direct patient care.
  • Maintains required skills and competencies and participates in educational programs, staff meetings and in services such as CPR as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

WashU is seeking an RN Staff Nurse to join the department of surgery, Cosmetic and Plastic Reconstruction practice in West County. Schedule: Monday through Friday during daytime clinic hours (with shifts between 6:30 AM and 4:30 PM). No Nights, No Weekends, No On Call. The RN Staff Nurse will be immersed in a supportive, high‑caliber clinical environment keen to transformative care, particularly for patients undergoing breast reconstruction and specialized cosmetic procedures. Working directly alongside two seasoned nurses, a dedicated medical assistant, and expert surgeons, the RN will master specialized clinical skills. Daily responsibilities include setting up and assisting with in‑office procedures, conducting post‑operative visits, managing tissue expansion fills, handling drains and suture removals, clinical photography, and autoclave operation. Beyond hands‑on care, the nurse plays a central role in patient navigation through chart preparation, pre‑op medication coordination, and patient education via MyChart and phone support.

Salary Range

$60,000.00 - $99,900.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
