Job summary

Riverview Health in Noblesville, IN seeks a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner to evaluate patients in the emergency department after violent assault and to collect forensic evidence as needed. You will work with ER physicians, law enforcement, and victim advocates to deliver comprehensive medical and psychosocial care.

The role requires an RN license in Indiana and BLS; preferred is a SANE certification with ACLS within six months. Minimum 1 year of SA/N pain experience is expected.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred.
• 1 year of clinical experience as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.
• RN license in Indiana and BLS certification.

Job description

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner evaluates all patients who present to the emergency department with a complaint of violent assault, including but not limited to victims of sexual assault, domestic or intimate partner violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and human trafficking. The SANE will collaborate with the ER physician, local law enforcement, and victim advocate services to provide comprehensive medical and psychosocial treatment and forensic evidence collection.

Job Responsibilities

• Obtain consent and patient history to formulate a plan of care as well as assess and conduct safety planning for victims and their families
• Collaborate with medical providers, victim advocates, law enforcement, Department of Child Services and other social service agencies to ensure optimal patient outcomes and enhancement of the patient experience
• Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, families, and coworkers
• Coordinate care by all agencies involved in assisting the sexual assault victim and coordinate referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up as needed
• Assess, collect, and analyze comprehensive objective, subjective, psychosocial, and cultural data pertinent to patient condition
• Perform a complete physical and forensic examination for assessment for trauma with possible evidence collection when applicable
• Document detailed injuries with the support of photographic evidence as required
• Provide courtroom testimony related to the care and treatment provided.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

• Minimum: Graduate of an accredited Associate Registered Nurse Program by date of hire.
• Preferred: BSN

Experience Requirements

• Minimum: One (1) year of clinical experience as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner

License/Certification Requirements

Minimum:

• Registered Nurse License eligible to practice in the state of Indiana
• Basic Life Safety (BLS) - American Heart Association

Preferred:

• Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Certification (SANE) - International Association of Forensic Nurses
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through AHA within six (6) months of hire
