Universal Health Services’ Heartland Behavioral Health in Nevada, Missouri, seeks a Registered Nurse to lead the adolescent psychiatric care team on a shift. You will assign patient responsibilities and supervise programming, treatment, and direct care staff within a pediatric mental health unit.

The ideal candidate has Missouri RN licensure, nursing knowledge, and strong experience with adolescent psychiatric care; BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; diploma or associate degree; BSN preferred.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Missouri.
• Knowledge of professional nursing.
• Advanced knowledge of adolescent and child behaviors and psychiatric care interventions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mental health treatment team during a shift by assigning patient responsibilities and activities.
• Supervise programming, treatment, and direct care staff.
• Provide clinical leadership within the unit and ensure safety and quality of care for pediatric patients.

Heartland Behavioral Health has been providing care for children and adolescents for over 100 years in Nevada, Missouri. We treat male and female patients ages 4 through 17 in acute and ages 4 through 17 females in the residential programs for conditions ranging from depression, anxiety and other mood disorders to recovering from a traumatic event. All of our programs have been designed and tailored to help our patients grow and prosper. Heartland programs are provided with a focus on Trauma Informed Care.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse provides leadership to the mental health treatment team during a designated shift through making patient assignments for responsibilities and activities and general supervision of programming, treatment, and direct care staff.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a diploma or an associate degree, B.S.N. preferred.
• Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of Missouri.
• Knowledge of Professional Nursing.
• Advanced knowledge of adolescent and child behaviors and knowledge of nursing interventions that are appropriate for the treatment of children and adolescents in need of psychiatric care.
• Experience in the psychiatric treatment of children and an adolescent is preferred.
• Adolescents
  • Knowledge of: 1) Adolescents programs, 2) Adolescent Growth and Development, developmental tasks ages 13-18, 3) Use of natural and logical consequences of their behavior, 4) Providing therapeutic seclusion and/or restraints. Uses no aversive or punitive measures. Aware of skills development process, use of modeling, feedback, and opportunities for practice of skills, and transference to other experiences.
• Pre-Adolescents
  • Knowledge of: 1) Pre-Adolescents program, 2) Adolescents Growth and Development, developmental tasks ages 3-12 years, 3) 1-2-3: Magic! Procedures, 4) Proper techniques/procedures for assisting with hygiene and ADL’s. Understands the benefits of positive reinforcements for appropriate Behaviors
