Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking a competent Perinatal RN for per diem night shifts. The RN will provide high-quality nursing care, perform assessments, develop and implement care plans, and delegate tasks as needed to maintain patient safety.

The role requires BLS and an RN license in Texas or a compact state; BSN preferred. Orientation within 30 days and ongoing competency validation are part of the onboarding process.

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification and RN license in-state or compact required
• New nurses orientation within 30 days of hire and annual competency validations

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation for assigned patients.
• Administers medications and treatments per protocol; monitors for side-effects and effectiveness.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medications and care provided.
• Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients and families/caregivers.

Summary

Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers as a means to help manage the clinical situation.

Responsibilities

• Using the appropriate protocol, administers medications and treatments; monitors for side-effects and effectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
• Assess learning needs and provides education to patients, family members and/or care givers; identify issues and resources.

Position Requirements

Education/Skills

• All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
• New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and a Perinatal Services-specific competency validation.
• Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.

Experience

• Perinatal RN Residency, or recently practicing in a Perinatal Setting is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Current certification required from one of the following: AWHONN Intermediate FHM, AWHONN Intermediate FHM Instructor, AWHONN Advanced FHM Instructor, AWHONN Instructor Trainer, or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM)
• Current NRP certification required
• Current ACLS certification required

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.

Credential Grace Periods

If additional credentials are required per the Position Requirements section, a grace period to obtain the certification will apply, dependent on your experience level.

• Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC)
  • Experienced Associates: Within 60 days of hire.

• Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR)
  • Experienced Associates: Within 60 days of hire.

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Experienced Associates: Within 30 days of hire.
