UAB Medicine’s Heart & Vascular Center (HVC) seeks a skilled RN to coordinate daily operations and patient flow in a fast-paced cath/EP lab environment. This role focuses on efficient care delivery, collaboration with physicians and nurses, and ensuring optimal bed management and throughput.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and active RN licensure in Alabama, with BLS at minimum; ACLS/PALS may be required depending on the unit.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing and two years of related experience required.
  • Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. BLS from the American Heart Association is required or obtained within 30 days. ACLS and/or PALS may be required depending on unit.

Job Highlights

UAB Medicine’sHeart & Vascular Center (HVC)is a 48-bed unit – including open bays, private rooms, and 15 procedure labs – designed to streamline preop and recovery care for cardiac, neuro interventional, and interventional radiology patients. Patient care on this unit supports the cath (ACL) lab, electrophysiology (EP) lab, vascular interventional radiology (VIR) lab, and neuro interventional lab procedure areas. Staff in this unit conduct assessments and procedures that could include cardioversions, ablations, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), angioplasty, nephrostomy, biliary drains, thrombectomy, and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE). It's a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you are constantly learning and challenging your critical assessment skills as a nurse providing clinical care to a diverse patient population. Plus, it’s a role where team members can experience instant gratification from helping make a positive outcome. Staff working in the cath lab, electrophysiology lab, and vascular interventional radiology lab procedure areas can expect to be on call 5-8 days per month, including after hours, weekends, and holidays. Staff must be able to respond within 30 minutes for emergent cases and can be given access to a room if needed. Ideal candidates have previous critical care experience, but it is not required. Additional training is provided for candidates without experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
