Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a dedicated behavioral health nurse for the Geri Psychiatry unit at UAB St. Vincent's East. The role provides direct patient care across multiple shifts, focusing on stabilization, recovery, and long-term wellness within a team-based model.

You will perform bio-psychosocial assessments, develop treatment plans, and participate in team conferences, including co-leading group therapy sessions as needed. A valid Alabama nursing license and BLS are required.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire required.
• Diploma from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure at time of hire.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed in Alabama required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to behavioral health patients according to facility policies.
• Conduct initial and ongoing bio-psychosocial assessments and develop a nursing care plan.
• Participate in treatment team conferences; co-lead group therapy sessions when appropriate.
• Evaluate patient responses and revise the nursing plan of care in collaboration with the treatment team.

  • Full-Time WIN Days, 3 12-Hour Shifts, Friday, Saturday, & Sunday OR Friday, Saturday, & any other weekday, 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
  • PRN, 12-Hour Shifts, 7:00 am - 7:00 pm and/or 7:00 pm - 7:00 am
• Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's East

Our Behavioral Health services at UAB St. Vincent’s East include 80 beds for adult and geriatric patients with acute and chronic mental health needs. Job Description

Provide direct patient care to behavioral health patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the facility.

• Perform initial and on-going bio-psychosocial assessments according to accepted standards of nursing practice. Develop a nursing plan of care consistent with the master treatment plan.
• Participate in treatment team conferences to assist in planning and revising goals, objectives and interventions appropriate to the age-related and problem-specific needs of each patient.
• Implement nursing plan of care for assigned patients and conducts and/or co-leads group therapy sessions for patients.
• Evaluate patient's response to interventions and revise nursing plan of care as needed. Collaborate with the treatment team to revise goals, objectives and interventions appropriate to the changes in patient status.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND Required professional licensure at time of hire.
