Job summary

Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Hastings Veterans Home. The RN will provide skilled nursing within the state act, conduct assessments, planning, and evaluation while delivering resident-centered care in a complex environment.

The MVH Hastings campus serves 195 Veterans and offers a comprehensive benefits package, a new hire bonus of $6,000, competitive insurance, and a defined rotating shift pattern across days, evenings, and nights.

Qualifications

• Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Effective communication to provide and follow instructions and teach skills to residents.
• Computer skills to complete electronic charting, specifically in PointClickCare.

Responsibilities

• Provide skilled nursing within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act.
• Perform assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to deliver quality resident-centered care.
• Deliver nursing care to residents at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings and support clinical, mental, chemical, and physical needs.

The Registered Nurse (RN) serves Minnesota Veteran Homes' Residents by delivering skilled nursing within the RN scope of practice as defined in the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, in accordance with current Federal, State and Veteran Administration regulations. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN will provide assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to sufficiently deliver quality resident centered care. This process provides the guidelines to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the Resident(s).

The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) which is an independent living community for Veterans. It provides a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our rewarding program helps Veterans with their clinical, mental, chemical, and physical needs, and has the capacity to serve 195 Veterans between the Hastings and Minneapolis campuses. Minimum Qualifications

• Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing.
  • If you are not currently licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse, you must be able to obtain licensure by date of hire.
  • Future Registered Nurses who are within six (6) months of graduating and taking their National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) are encouraged to apply. Contingent job offers may be made upon successful completion of degree and passing of NCLEX-RN.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross or ability to be certified by date of hire.
• Effective communication sufficient to provide and follow instructions and teach skills to residents.
• Computer skills sufficient to complete electronic charting, specifically in PointClickCare.

Preferred Qualifications

• Training in or experience with chemical dependency, mental health, and co-occurring disorders
• Experience with Veteran population

Additional Requirements

• A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
• A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) Screening or Chest X-Ray is required prior to employment.
