UAB Medicine’s Emergency Department in Alabama is expanding and hiring RN staff to support a high-volume, ACS-verified Level I trauma center. The role emphasizes critical care, fast-paced decision making, and teamwork with physicians, psychologists, podiatrists, and dentists to deliver life-saving care.

Qualifications

• 3 years or more of nursing experience preferred.
• 2+ years of psychiatric or correctional nursing experience preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• ACLs/PALS may be required depending on unit.

Position Overview

Pay range: $30.00 - $48.00 / hour

Shifts: full-time and part-time AM and PM, weekends AM and PM

Schedules: 7 a.m.-7 p.m., 7 p.m.-7 a.m.

Job Highlights

We are expanding our Emergency Department (ED) at UAB Hospital, Alabama’s first ACS-verified Level I Adult Trauma Center, and we’re hiring additional team members. As one of the largest emergency departments in the country, this expansion will include 115+ treatment and triage spaces, more than doubling our capacity as well as a 30-bed inpatient observation unit. The new space was designed with staff input and will have new equipment and features, including dedicated technology like CT scanners, X-ray machines, and echo ultrasound, along with a ceiling lift for bariatric patients, enhanced security, and a streamlined teleadmission process.

Job Description

To utilize the nursing process to care and/or counsel individuals in the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of illness and injury. Using a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems through activities such as health teaching, health counseling and the provision of care supportive and restorative of life and supportive of a peaceful death. To identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model. To delegate, coordinate and manage all aspects of nursing care provided to the patient, their family and our community in a timely and cost-effective manner. To deliver patient care in collaboration with the patient, their family and all members of the health care team and with the knowledge of a licensed physician, psychologist, podiatrist, and/or dentist.

Qualifications

3 years or more of nursing experience preferred.

2+ years of experience preferred in psychiatric nursing, psychiatric emergency nursing, or correctional nursing.

Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. If job is in a free-standing emergency department (FSED) location, one (1) year of emergency or ICU nursing experience is required. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
