Job summary

Aultman Health Foundation is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The RN provides direct, primary nursing care and coordinates patient care with licensed staff and the healthcare team.

The CCU supports patients on IABP, LVAD/Impella, mechanical ventilation, and various hemodynamic monitoring needs. BSN preferred; Ohio RN license required; BLS/ACLS as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Maintain current, active BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements.
  • Membership in professional nursing organization preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply the nursing process: assess, plan, intervene, evaluate and communicate patient information.
  • Act as patient/resident advocate with the healthcare team to ensure safety, comfort, and satisfaction.

Coronary Care Unit (CCU)

The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) consists of 56 private beds organized into five pods. Each pod has its own pod station, medication room, food service area, equipment room, clean utility room and soiled utility room. Each patient room is equipped to provide individualized care for patients during their hospitalization.

The CCU Setup Includes
  • Both telemetry and hardwire monitoring bedside screens which include rhythm, ischemia, pressure, noninvasive blood pressure and pulse oximetry monitoring (all rooms).
  • Workstation between every two patient rooms.
  • Eight rooms equipped for acute hemodialysis.
  • One room can be adjusted for negative air pressure to be used as an airborne infectious isolation room.
CCU Provides Care For
  • Patients receiving IABP therapy, TTM, and CRRT therapy.
  • Patients with an Impella device or previously implanted LVAD.
  • Mechanically ventilated patients.
  • Patients with hemodynamic monitoring, arterial lines/sheaths and IV medications.
  • Staff assignments may change according to the level of care needed, and patients can be transferred to the ICU pod when more intensive treatment is required. Patients may be moved to another unit based on specialty needs.
Nursing Summary/ Purpose Of Position

The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patient’s/resident’s needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians/state tested nursing assistants/nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable.

Responsibilities & Expectations
  • The Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) is designed to provide assessment, care, and treatment to both stable and the acutely ill medical cardiac patient.
  • The staff RN is expected to care for stepdown and ICU levels of care within the unit.
  • All nurses attend critical care classes and complete a unit-specific orientation program when oriented to both the CCU stepdown and ICU levels of care.
  • All nurses complete annual hospital and unit-specific competency.

Working Conditions
  • Work eight or twelve hours a day. This unit requires 24/7 coverage.
  • Shifts are variable to volume of department. Rotation as needed.
  • Work weekends and holidays as assigned. Every other weekend and every other holiday, in a rotation.
  • Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate floor coverage.
  • Cross training to all areas in the department is required.
  • Staff may be assigned to different locations within ADHVH.
