Position Overview

Pay range: $30.00 - $48.00 / hour. Shifts: full‑time AM and PM, weekends. Job Highlights

The Abdominal Transplant (ABTX) Unit is a 27‑bed mixed acuity (acute and step‑down care) unit specializing in comprehensive care to kidney, liver, pancreas, and uterus transplant patients and living donors. Nurses on this unit practice at the top of their scope, providing the highest quality care and overall patient experience. The unit handles more than 400 procedures annually, including heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, liver, uterus, and multi‑organ transplants. As Alabama’s only liver transplant program, the ABTX is part of the UAB Comprehensive Transplant Institute, one of the nation’s most active organ transplant centers. UAB Medicine is also a leading renal transplant center for both living‑donor and deceased‑donor procedures.

Job Description
  • Utilize the nursing process to care and counsel individuals in the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of illness and injury.
  • Apply a systematic critical‑thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention, and evaluation of human responses to health problems through activities such as health teaching, health counseling, and the provision of supportive and restorative care.
  • Identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model.
  • Delegate, coordinate, and manage all aspects of nursing care for patients, families, and the community in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
  • Deliver patient care in collaboration with the patient, family, and all health care team members, with knowledge of licensed physicians, psychologists, podiatrists, and/or dentists.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing program (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
  • Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing (required).
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) (required) or to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the AHA may be required.
