Job summary

Summa Health is seeking a Part‑Time RN for the H6 Post‑Surgical Progressive Care Unit at the Akron Campus. The unit cares for orthopedic, bariatric, neuro‑spine, cardiothoracic, and trauma patients after surgery. 24 hours per week, 7a‑7:30p, every other weekend/holiday.

The role requires ADN (BSN preferred), Ohio RN license, ACLS within six months, and BLS current. This 36‑bed unit values teamwork and patient‑centered care.

Qualifications

• ADN required; BSN preferred as per posted qualifications.
• Current license to practice as an RN in Ohio.
• ACLS within six months; BLS must be current.
• One year of RN experience in the unit or similar setting.
• Ability to perform physical tasks and work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provide, coordinate, and/or delegate nursing care for post‑surgical patients.
• Monitor patient status, manage resources, and support families.
• Collaborate with the care team to ensure safe patient flow and outcomes.

Primary patient population: This unit primarily provides care to orthopedic, bariatric, neuro‑spine, cardiothoracic, and trauma patients post‑surgery.

Unit Size: 36‑bed unit

Target Nurse‑to‑Patient Ratio: 1:4 *subject to change based on census numbers and patient care needs

Summary

Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.

Formal Education Required

• Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) required, BSN preferred
• Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
• Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio

Experience And Training Required

• PRN RN's must have at least one-year recent experience in the area of practice.
• One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions.
• Additional related previous experience and/or preparation maybe required for specialty units.

Other Skills, Competencies And Qualifications

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
• Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
• Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.
• Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; All nurses new to critical care, progressive care, medical telemetry, PACU, and ED must successfully complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months and maintain current card. Experienced RNs hired into areas requiring ACLS are expected to have an ACLS certification upon hire or must be completed within six weeks of hire.
