Job summary

Austin Oaks Hospital, part of Universal Health Services, is seeking an Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN) PRN to support referrals/admissions coordination and patient assessments. You will document inquiries and ensure records are accurate, while collaborating with clinical staff to manage patient conditions.

The role requires nursing qualification with Texas licensure, and involvement in crisis management and treatment planning as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• One-year psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
• CPR and hospital de-escalation certifications (can be obtained during orientation).
• Must be able to complete background check and pre-employment drug screen.
• State and Federal background checks as required.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients' psychiatric and medical status and provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Coordinate referrals and admissions; ensure inquiries and referrals are documented accurately.
• Ensure referral medical records are complete and distributed to unit charts as required.
• Provide leadership and direction to mental health technicians.
• Contribute to treatment planning as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician.

Position Summary

Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN) PRN, key responsibilities

Responds to incoming calls to the hospital to accommodate coordination for referrals/admissions. Will provide assessment of patients' psychiatric and medical status. Responsible for making sure all inquiries, referrals, and admissions are documented accurately in the computer system and that notes regarding referrals and upcoming admissions are documented on proper forms. Responsible to ensure all referral patient medical record information is completed and nursing and clinical staff are adequately apprised of the patient's condition/history. Responsible to ensure referral material is copied/distributed and prepared in unit charts as required. To assess, direct and intervene in crisis situations. To provide leadership and direction to mental health technicians. To contribute to treatment plan as a member of interdisciplinary team. To administer medication and medical treatment as prescribed by Physician.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Licensed by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (or licensed in a compact state).
