Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an experienced RN Float to support multiple acute care units as part of the Acute Care Float Pool at College Station. This PRN role requires the ability to float where needed, deliver high-quality patient care, and adapt to varying unit environments.

Ideal candidates are RNs with an accredited nursing program, two years of nursing experience, and BLS certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Graduated from an accredited nursing program or have two years of relevant nursing experience.
• Main area of study in your education should be nursing.
• Two years of experience in nursing is required.
• You need to be a registered nurse.
• Have basic life support (BLS) certification or get it within 30 days of starting.

Responsibilities

• Focus on patient and family needs.
• Develop and adjust nursing care plans for desired outcomes.
• Create a safe environment for patients, families, and staff while addressing emotional and physical needs.
• Adapt nursing care to the unique needs, conditions, and preferences of patients across different acute care settings.
• Provide patient and family education and evaluate and document learning needs and progress.
• Work collaboratively with unit teams and interdisciplinary partners to implement individualized care plans.
• Adapt quickly to different units, workflows, patient populations, and care teams.
• Prioritize and manage multiple patient care needs while maintaining safety and quality.
• Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient condition, staff competency, and established guidelines.

Acute Care Float Pool

Patient Population: Adult acute care patients across multiple hospital units

Float Expectations: RNs may float to various acute care units based on hospital staffing and patient care needs.

The Acute Care Float Pool provides experienced RNs with the opportunity to support multiple nursing units throughout Baylor Scott & White Hospital – College Station. Float Pool RNs are expected to adapt quickly to different unit environments, patient populations, workflows, and care teams while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care.

This position is ideal for an RN who enjoys variety, works well independently, and is comfortable adjusting to changing patient care needs. Float Pool RNs use strong clinical judgment and nursing knowledge to provide care across appropriate acute care settings while collaborating with unit leadership and interdisciplinary teams.

PRN Requirements

• PRN RNs are required to work a minimum of 2 shifts per 6-week period.
• RNs must be able to float to assigned units based on staffing and operational needs.
• Full orientation is provided and includes an in-person orientation week.
• Successful Float Pool RNs demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, strong communication, and the ability to quickly integrate into different unit environments.

As an RN Float, you are vital in healthcare, coordinating patient care based on our nursing model. You assess patients, plan personalized care, and evaluate responses to health issues.
