Job summary

Astrana Health Management is seeking a Pre-Operative Registered Nurse (RN) to join our surgical services team in Tustin, CA. The RN will collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the care team to prepare patients for procedures and ensure safety and readiness.

The ideal candidate holds a CA RN license, BLS and ACLS, and has at least six months of relevant RN experience in ambulatory or acute settings.

Qualifications

• Active California RN license.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications.
• At least six months RN experience in ambulatory surgery center, medical-surgical, telemetry, ICU, or ED.
• Strong communication skills with patients and team.
• Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Demonstrated adaptability in a fast-paced health-care environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive preoperative patient assessments, including health history and physical exam.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
• Address physical, emotional, educational, and psychosocial needs of patients and families.
• Provide preoperative education and support to patients, families, and caregivers.
• Monitor and reassess patients, adjusting plans as needed based on condition.
• Ensure compliance with preoperative safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Advocate for patients to promote a safe and efficient surgical experience.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

Education

Registered Nurse license in California

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

AHA BLS certification

AHA ACLS certification

Six months RN experience in Ambulatory Surgery Center/Medical-Surgical/Telemetry/ICU/ED

Description

The Pre-Operative Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in preparing patients for surgical and invasive procedures by delivering comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care throughout the preoperative phase. Working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary care teams, the Pre-Op RN develops, coordinates, and implements individualized plans of care that promote patient safety, surgical readiness, and optimal clinical outcomes.

What You'll Do

• Conduct comprehensive preoperative patient assessments, including health history review and physical examination.

• Perform ongoing patient monitoring and reassessment, adjusting care plans as needed based on patient condition.
• Ensure compliance with preoperative safety standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Advocate for patients and promote a safe, efficient, and positive surgical experience.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

Qualifications

• Active, current, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• At least six (6) months of recent Registered Nurse knowledge and experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center, Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), or Emergency Department (ED) setting.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and other operational needs.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt, prioritize, and maintain composure in a fast-paced, dynamic health-care environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Bilingual proficiency with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations and their families.
• Previous perioperative or preoperative nursing experience.
• Certification in a specialty nursing area related to surgical services.
