Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license valid in Hawaii.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience as a critical care RN or PACU nurse in a hospital setting.
• Valid BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• Strong critical thinking and patient assessment skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients pre-operatively and during Phase I and II of post-anesthesia recovery.
• Monitor vital signs, incision sites, and patient stability using specialized equipment.
• Assess patients for complications and respond promptly to changes in condition.
• Operate and manage Medical devices including Meditech, PCA Pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV Pumps, Cryocuff, SCDs, Bair PAWS Warmers, HP Monitors, and Phillips Monitors.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and interdisciplinary team members for patient care planning and execution.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with hospital policies.
• Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain clinical skills and certifications.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients recovering from surgery, including pre-operative care and Phase I and II recovery. This role requires advanced knowledge in anesthesiology and critical care skills to monitor patient stability, assess incision sites, and manage post-surgical complications. The nurse collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Required Skills & Certifications

• Active Registered Nurse license valid in the state of Hawaii.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience as a critical care RN (e.g., ER, ICU) or PACU nurse in a hospital setting.
• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association.
• Strong critical thinking and patient assessment skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification recommended or required for specific positions.
• Other specialty-related certifications such as NIHSS and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
• Experience with surgical nursing and critical care environments.

Special Considerations

• Must obtain and maintain an active Hawaii nursing license prior to assignment start.
• Proof of flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required before contract start date.
• On-call shifts required 0-3 times per month, including 8-hour night and 24-hour weekend/holiday coverage.
• Work environment includes acute surgical and post-anesthesia recovery units.

Scheduling

• Shifts vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours in duration.
• Shift assignments include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• No guarantee of hours or shift preference; scheduling depends on unit needs across ASU and PACU.
