Forest View Hospital, a private 108‑bed psychiatric facility just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is inviting applications for a Psych RN in our Partial Hospitalization Program. New grads are welcome to apply!

The Temp Psych RN delivers nursing care to patients on the PHP unit, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for both adolescents and adults, while collaborating with the treatment team and supporting discharge planning as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• 6–12 months of prior psychiatric nursing preferred.
• Current RN licensure in Michigan.
• CPR/Handle With Care certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Using the nursing process, the RN develops an initial nursing treatment plan for each admitted patient.
• Assess, plan, and deliver care for patients with co-occurring disorders.
• Continually assess and reassess the patient’s medical and psychiatric status and changing needs.
• Participate with other team members in planning and implementing the patient’s treatment plan.
• Direct and participate with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.
• Assist with discharge planning and work with patient’s discharges.
• Provide nursing interventions and education groups in accordance with the program and schedule.
• Medication teaching activities, assessment of medication side effects and medication efficacy, and assist physicians in obtaining informed consent.
• Communicate with patients and parents about meds procedures; ensure prescriptions are sent home the day they are written.
• Maintain professionalism and adhere to standards of care and performance.
• Accurately transcribe physician orders according to nursing policy.
• Adhere to Infection Control policies and procedures and standard precautions.
• Assess and reassess patient’s pain and provide nursing care as needed.
• Attend Monthly Clinical Staff meetings and sign minutes.
• Maintain current nursing standards of care and practices.
• Demonstrate ability to handle incoming crisis calls, make referrals and complete assessments as necessary.
• Maintain therapeutic relationships while adhering to boundary policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The TEMP Psych RN provides nursing care to patients on each clinical unit as assigned, utilizing the nursing process. Patient population serviced includes both adolescents and adults.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Utilizing the nursing process, the RN develops an initial nursing treatment plan for each admitted patient.
• Competent in assessing, planning, and delivering care for patients with co-occurring disorders.
• The nurse continually assesses and reassesses the patient’s medical and psychiatric status and changing needs.
• Participates with other team members in planning and implementing the patient’s treatment plan.
• Directs and participates with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.
• Assists with discharge planning and works with patient’s discharges.
• Provides nursing interventions and education groups in accordance with the program and schedule.
• Medication teaching activities, assessment of medication side effects and medication efficacy, and assists physicians in obtaining informed consent.
• Communicates with patients and parents the appropriate procedure for sending medication to the PHP program, and provides education about those medications. Ensures that physician ordered prescriptions are sent home to the parent on the day they are written.
• Maintains professionalism and adheres to the determined standards of care and performance.
• Accurately transcribes physician orders according to nursing policy and procedure.
• Adheres to the Infection Control policies and procedures of the hospital and follows standard precautions at all times.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• 6-12 months of previous Psych Nursing preferred, demonstrating a strong understanding of the unit they will be assisting in leadership. .
• Current RN licensure in the state of Michigan.
• Demonstrates clinical competency in providing general nursing care. Basic understanding of psychiatric nursing theory
• CPR/Handle With Care certification preferred.
