Job summary

University of New Mexico Hospital (UNM Hospital) in Albuquerque is seeking RN Per Diem across Progressive Care Units (PCU) for day and night shifts. Immediate openings with a responsive hiring manager contact within 48 hours to discuss placement.

Per diem roles offer differentials: 17% Weekday Nights, 26% Weekend Nights, and 15% Weekend Day shifts, with RN Per Diem I/II/III depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Nursing program (nationally accredited) graduate.
  • 1 year directly related experience.
  • RN MATRIX – complete and maintain unit/clinic based required certifications and competencies as listed in the department expectations or the unit/clinic education matrix.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in State of New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by State of New Mexico.
  • CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position.
  • Obtain UNMH IV Verification within 6 months of position.
  • Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required.
  • Nationally Certified in area of specialty (preferred).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or other languages (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required.
  • Work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, implement and document individualized care plans including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained.
  • Participate in orientation; upon successful completion of preceptor training assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel.
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients.
  • Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information.
  • Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy.
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by questioning current policies and processes.
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may Not seem right.

Compensation for this role is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, and other business and organizational considerations.

RN Per Diem positions are flat rate: RN Per Diem I $40.30/hour, RN Per Diem II $47.38/hour, and RN Per Diem III $51.49/hour.

Job Summary

Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients consistent with clinical specialty, independent of patient location. Serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment and quality patient care. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. This position does not qualify for out of area float pay. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Minimum Work Requirements
  • RN Per Diem I: two shifts per schedule, including one weekend shift and one summer and one winter holiday.
  • RN Per Diem II: four shifts per schedule, including two weekend shifts and one summer and one winter holiday.
  • RN Per Diem III: ten shifts per schedule, including two weekend shifts and one summer and one winter holiday.

Working Conditions
  • Environmental Conditions: Sig Hazard – Chemicals, bio hazardous materials requiring extensive safety precautions and may require protective equipment.
  • Physical Conditions: Heavy Work – Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
