Mercy Kids Pediatric ENT is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our pediatric otolaryngology team at Mercy Hospital St. Louis. The RN will provide professional nursing care to pediatric patients, support physicians and APPs, and coordinate care in a fast-paced outpatient ENT clinic.

Responsibilities include patient triage, assessments, education, medication management and coordination of referrals. Must have RN license in MO; CPR/BLS preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires RN licensure in the applicable state
• CPR/BLS certification preferred or obtainable within 90 days of employment
• Knowledge of nursing principles, clinical assessment and patient care practices
• Experience in pediatric, ambulatory, ENT, or specialty clinic nursing preferred

• Escort patients to examination rooms and obtain medical histories.
• Assess patient conditions and document vital signs.
• Prepare patients for provider exams and procedures.

Overview

Mercy Kids Pediatric ENT is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our specialized pediatric otolaryngology team at Mercy Hospital St. Louis Clinic Towers. The RN provides professional nursing care to pediatric patients and their families while supporting physicians and advanced practice providers in delivering exceptional specialty care.

This role is integral to the daily operations of a busy pediatric specialty clinic and is responsible for patient triage, clinical assessment, care coordination, medication management, patient education, telephone and electronic communication management, and provider support. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering family-centered care in a fast-paced pediatric environment.

Position Justification

This position is being recruited to replace an existing Mercy Kids ENT RN and maintain appropriate staffing levels to support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The Clinic Nurse plays a critical role in clinic operations by managing:

• Patient triage and clinical assessments.
• Telephone encounters and electronic in-basket communications.
• Care coordination and referral management.
• Patient and family education.
• Medication management and prescription support.
• Physician and provider collaboration.
• Clinical workflow efficiency and patient satisfaction.

Maintaining adequate RN staffing is essential to ensuring timely access to care and positive outcomes for pediatric ENT patients.

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical Care

• Escort patients to examination rooms and obtain or review medical histories and chief complaints.
• Assess patient conditions and accurately obtain and record vital signs.
• Prepare patients for provider examinations and procedures.
• Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and specialty procedures.
• Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections as ordered.
• Perform IV therapy and monitor patient responses.
• Assist with laboratory testing and diagnostic procedures as needed.
• Perform specialty-specific nursing procedures related to Pediatric ENT care.
• Ensure patient safety throughout all phases of care.

Care Coordination & Communication

• Triage patient phone calls and electronic messages, gathering pertinent clinical information and collaborating with providers as appropriate.
• Return patient and family calls within established timeframes.
• Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, follow-up appointments, and specialty services.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, procedures, and follow-up care.
• Communicate test results and provider recommendations according to established protocols.

Documentation & Administrative Support

• Accurately document patient information within the electronic health record (EHR).
• Assist with coding documentation requirements as needed.
• Review and organize patient charts and clinical records.
• Support managed care processes, referrals, authorizations, and other administrative functions.
• Maintain accurate medication documentation and storage practices.

Clinic Operations & Quality

• Stock and prepare examination rooms and specialty equipment.
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and instruments.
• Assist with crash cart reviews and emergency preparedness activities.
• Respond appropriately to urgent or emergent situations within the clinic setting.
• Adhere to infection prevention standards, universal precautions, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in professional development, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a professional appearance and represent Mercy's mission and values in all interactions.

Qualifications

Required Education

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Required Licensure

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.

Required Certification

• CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.

Required Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of nursing principles, clinical assessment, diagnostic procedures, and patient care practices.
• Knowledge of medications, indications, side effects, and patient education principles.
• Ability to assist with and perform a variety of nursing treatments and procedures.
• Strong critical thinking skills and sound clinical judgment.

Experience

• Previous nursing experience is not required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

• Pediatric, ambulatory, outpatient, ENT, or specialty clinic nursing experience preferred.

Certifications

• Pediatric-focused certifications or specialty training preferred.
• BLS/CPR certification upon hire preferred.
