Job summary

Corewell Health’s Pediatric Care Unit in Royal Oak, MI, is seeking a part-time RN for night shifts (7 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.), 24 hours weekly, with every-other weekend scheduling. The unit cares for diverse pediatric diagnoses and collaborates with a wide team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Qualifications include ADN or diploma, with BSN preferred within 5 years for new grads, MI RN license, BLS, PALS within 1 year, and NCLEX success. Pediatric experience is highly preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Diploma in Nursing Required.
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years if new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience.
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) required or if new grad within 60 days of hire
  • AHA, ARC, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire/transfer
  • PALS required within 1 year of hire/transfer
  • Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years
  • 1 year of acute care RN experience required
  • Highly Prefer Pediatric experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Incorporate patient-family centered care principles in planning, implementation, and discharge.
  • Collaborate with care teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Document education and learning appropriately in health records.

About the unit

We are a 70-bed unit which includes 8 pediatric progressive beds. Our staff have the knowledge to care for many types of pediatric diagnoses which include, but are not limited to, oncology, hematology, endocrinology, neurology, general surgery, ortho, trauma, neuro, ENT surgeries, respiratory, adolescent medicine (disordered eating), gastroenterology, and more. Our healthcare team includes registered nurses, nursing assistants, clinical assistants, nurse practitioners, resident physicians, hospitalists, child life specialists, social workers, dieticians, physical & occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, chaplains, and others who are trained to provide compassionate and high-quality care for our pediatric patients.

Scope of work

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record.
