Job summary

Summa Health System, Akron Campus is seeking an RN-PD Forensic Nurse Examiner on a per diem basis. The role provides care and assessment for interpersonal violence victims, with emphasis on timely sample collection, precise chart documentation, and photo documentation of cases.

The candidate will participate in other professional activities as directed, with required SANE training within six months and possible forensic-related training.

Qualifications

  • Must have ADN; BSN preferred; current Ohio RN license.
  • SANE training required within 6 months of hire; forensic training preferred; forensic photography training preferred; SANE-A certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care and assessment for interpersonal violence victims.
  • Collect samples in a timely manner and document accurately.
  • Photograph cases and maintain chart documentation as directed.
  • Participate in related professional activities as assigned.

RN-PD Forensic Nurse Examiner

Summary

Provides care and assessment for patients identified as interpersonal violence victims at Summa Health System. Provides timely sample collection, accurate chart documentation, and photo documentation of all cases. Participates in other professional activities and services as directed.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. 1. Formal Education Required:
  2. a. Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) required, BSN preferred
  3. b. Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
  4. c. Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
  5. d. Obtain SANE training with in the first 6 months of hire and work on required hours to sit for SANE-A certification examination.
  6. e. Forensic training preferred.
  7. f. Forensic photography training preferred.
  8. g. SANE-A certification preferred.
  9. 2. Experience & Training Required:
  10. a. Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing which may include experience with victims of trauma, abuse, psychological disorders and/or addictive behavior.
  11. 3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
  12. a. Demonstrates ability to exercise appropriate judgment and confidentiality with regards to administrative and clinical duties
  13. b. Ability to work well within a team environment while assuming a collegial relationship and offering constructive feedback; supporting team goals; supporting and encouraging team members; collaborating with all health care team members to problem solve, consolidate work, reduce costs and accomplish the objectives of the department.
  14. c. Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external publics and groups.
  15. d. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others to institute change.
  16. e. Ability to assess, implement and direct effective and appropriate nursing practice in forensic nursing.
  17. f. Population Specific Competency: ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
  18. 4. Level of Physical Demands:
  19. a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
