Job summary

Summit Medical Center in Edmond, OK is seeking a dedicated PACU nurse to deliver postoperative care in the recovery unit. You will assess patients, monitor recovery from anesthesia, and determine discharge readiness in collaboration with the surgical team.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited nursing program, active Oklahoma RN licensure, current BLS, and ACLS within one year. Prior PACU experience is preferred. The role is day shift and full-time with benefits.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in Oklahoma.
  • BLS certification; ACLS required within one year of employment.
  • Previous PACU experience preferred.

Job Shift: Day

Position Summary: Delivers nursing care in the Post‑Operative Care Unit (PACU) to patients entering the postoperative phase of treatment. Responsible for assessing the patient’s condition and readiness for discharge.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures that the PACU has a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients at all times.
  • Ensures supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order.
  • Admits the patient to the unit and monitors recovery from anesthesia and surgical procedure.
  • Makes initial assessment and determines the nursing needs of the patient.
  • Follows and implements physician’s orders and performs all required nursing activities.
  • Explains nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety.
  • Identifies patient’s physical and mental status.
  • Monitors the patient’s medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist.
  • Documents accurately in the patient’s medical record the care received and the progress in the recovery process.
  • Assures that the patient fits the documented criteria prior to discharge.
  • Provides emotional support to patients and family members as necessary.
  • Performs other duties assigned or requested.
  • Maintains established center/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
  • Maintains and cares for department equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in educational programs and in‑service meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and center related business.
  • Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors and other center employees.
  • Documents concisely, precisely and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy.
  • Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and center business.
  • Understands and maintains clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration).

Qualifications
