As a RN in our clinic, you will play a crucial role in supporting our healthcare professionals and ensuring our patients receive the best possible care. -Day Shift Position -Call rotation required Summary Carry out specialized, expanded nursing role in assisting surgeons in performing technical surgical procedures with optimal results for the patient, as well as general nursing care according to standards of nursing practice in accordance with applicable safety laws and regulations. Performs within scope of practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) under direct observation and instruction of surgeon.
Assists under the direction of the operating surgeon with intra-operative homeostasis, exposure, closure, administration of medications, etc. May perform skin closure under direction without need for direct observation after validation of competency by surgeon. Develops specialized preoperative plans in coordination with appropriate surgeons and health team members. Assists the surgical technician in preparation of surgical tools and equipment, and takes preventative measures to ensure applicable health and safety regulations are satisfied. Assists the surgical team in draping the patient and maintaining the sterile field. Functions under the direction of the surgeon during the intraoperative portion of practice, as well as within the clinical practice setting. Must demonstrate knowledge of surgical anatomy/physiology and operative technique, have ability to apply the principles of asepsis/infection control, recognize safety hazards, and initiate appropriate corrective action. Additional duties as delegated by the surgeon in cooperation with local and state policy. Functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct. Credentialing through the Allied Health Staff of the organization where you will be working will be required.
Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred. Registered Nurse (RN) experience preferred. Completion of surgical assisting program or on the job training. Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Certification by the Competency and Credentialing Institute Certification (CCI) for Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) or the Orthopedic Nurses Certification Board with certification in ONC within one years of meeting certification eligibility requirement is required. Maintaining certification is a requirement for employment.
