Job summary

Hartford HealthCare is seeking an experienced Oncology RN for the Cancer Institute in Connecticut. You will perform patient assessments, manage symptom control, and educate patients and families throughout treatment.

Responsibilities include safe administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy, infusions, and transfusions, plus collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and outpatient infusion scheduling. A strong commitment to safety and care quality is essential.

Qualifications

• Current Connecticut RN License.
• Current OCN Chemotherapy/Biotherapy card (or within first month of hire).
• Two years oncology nursing experience preferred.
• BSN strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient assessments and provides symptom management and education to patients and families.
• Administers chemotherapy/biotherapy, infusions, injections, and transfusions safely.
• Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care across treatment and follow-up.
• Schedules infusion visits with provider offices.
• Triage of patients using pathways and coordinates referrals as needed.
• Manages outpatient caseload of infusion and oral therapies.
• Maintains high-quality, safe care and effective communication with diverse audiences.
• Participates in ongoing professional development and focus on patient experience.
• Supports implementation of clinical programs to optimize care.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates excellent ability to perform patient assessments, and provide symptom management as well as patient and family education.
• Practices safe administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy, infusions, injections, and transfusions.
• Acts as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care throughout various stages of treatment and follow‑up including, but not exclusive to: providers, social work, dietician, integrative medicine, pharmacy, navigators, laboratory, radiation therapy, genetics, and clinical research.
• Collaborate with provider offices to schedule patients for infusion visits.
• Triage of patients through use of pathways and collaboration with physicians for toxicities, symptom management and needs for referrals within the RN scope of practice.
• Manage a caseload of patients receiving a variety of infusion and oral therapies on an outpatient basis.
• Demonstrates high level skills to manage complex workload effectively to provide safest, high quality care.
• Demonstrates an excellent ability to communicate through various methods and with various audiences to achieve desired outcome(s).
• Participates and engages in continuous professional development, safety behaviors and focus on the patient experience.
• Participates in the implementation of clinical support programs to ensure optimal care throughout the health‑care continuum.
