Job summary

The University of California – Los Angeles Health is seeking an experienced RN to deliver direct nursing care and infusion therapy in the Community Oncology Practice. You will assess patients, prepare and administer chemotherapeutic and IV drugs, and provide patient education and psychosocial support.

Ideal candidates hold an active California RN license, MSN/BSN, and chemotherapy/immunotherapy and BLS certifications, with strong infusion and central line skills and oncology experience.

Qualifications

  • Current California RN license.
  • MSN or BSN degree.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification.
  • Knowledge of Oncology patient population and infusion therapy.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through for multiple patient treatments.
  • Excellent blood withdrawal and IV skills.
  • Knowledge of Central line Catheters.
  • Experience to screen and triage acute patients.
  • Ability to report abnormal labs to Physicians.
  • Skill in using medical diagnostic equipment and infusion therapy supplies.
  • Ability to work under direction from leadership with prompt action.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Must be able to push/pull/carry 30 pounds or more.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to clinic locations.

Job description

Description

In this role, you will provide direct nursing care, infusion therapy and documentation to patients in the Community Oncology Practice. Major functions include: patient assessment, patient evaluation and preparation and administration of chemotherapeutic agents and other intravenous drugs, patient education and psychosocial support.

Salary range: $70.59/hr - $106.80/hr

Qualifications

Required:

  • Possession of current California RN license
  • Possession of a MSN or BSN degree
  • Possession of BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Possession of ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification
  • Knowledge of the Oncology patient population and practice operations
  • Knowledge of all aspects of infusion therapy in an oncology setting
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through for multiple patient treatments on an ongoing basis
  • Excellent blood withdrawal and IV skills
  • Knowledge and skill in Central line Catheters
  • Experience to accurately screen and triage acute patients
  • Knowledge to recognize abnormal laboratory values and report to Physicians
  • Skill in usage of medical diagnostic equipment, as well as working knowledge of instruments and supplies required to perform necessary blood tests and provide infusion therapy
  • Ability to accept direction from leadership and act promptly
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, peers, physicians and administrators.
  • Skill in listening perceptively, conveying awareness and responding to patients and visitors with health concerns using tact and discretion
  • Ability to interact diplomatically and sympathetically with patients, their families, and general public in a high volume, clinical setting
  • Skill in performing with frequent interruptions and/or distractions including the ability to accept equivocal circumstances and respond to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, and hostility
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with sensitive and confidential information using discretion and judgment
  • Ability to push, pull or carry 30 pounds or more
  • Reliable transportation to travel to various clinic locations as assigned by manager

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of the UCLA registration system, appointment scheduling system and order entry system
  • Knowledge and ability to understand, assume responsibilities, and perform duties associated with moderate complexity laboratory testing, including quality control, calibration, proficiency testing, as well as review and approve test results prior to release
  • Possession of OCN certification
  • Possession of PICC line certification
  • Minimum of two years of acute care/oncology outpatient experience
