The Nurse Supervisor provides supervision of infusion centers, collaborates with physicians and nursing leadership, supports clinical staff, and ensures high-quality patient care while adapting to variable hours and locations.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Minimum of five (5+) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year working in a charge, supervisory, or management-level position in an Ambulatory Oncology environment.
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.
  • Current ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy provider card or must obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and employee performance.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.
  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision of infusion functions at the KOP Infusion Center, planning and performing direct and indirect nursing interventions.
  • Work with physicians, nursing leadership, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure patients receive high-quality medical, nursing, and psychosocial care.
  • Assist in administrative efficiencies through the medical service areas and monitor day-to-day operations with minimal supervision.
  • Adapt work hours and locations based on business needs; coordinate care across multiple shifts and units.

The Nurse Supervisor provides support and care to the clients and maintains professional standards of care, following the ANA Code of Ethics. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Nursing, Infusion, the Nurse Supervisor is responsible for immediate supervision of a wide variety of infusion functions at the KOP Infusion Center, planning and performing direct and indirect nursing interventions, and is responsible for supervising, organizing, planning, assessing and monitoring the medical services provided by UC San Diego Health. The KOP Infusion Center is part of Moores Cancer Center, located on the main campus in La Jolla.

The Nurse Supervisor works in conjunction with physicians, nursing leadership, nurses, and other healthcare providers to assure that patients are receiving the best medical, nursing, and psychosocial care possible. The Nurse Supervisor assists in administrative efficiencies through the medical service areas and has frequent independent judgment in monitoring the day-to-day operation of the units with minimal administrative assistance/supervision.While work hours and location may vary due to business needs, the RN Nurse Supervisor can expect a 5/8 work schedule, Monday through Friday.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or related area.
  • ACLS and/or UCSD ART certification.
  • OCN.
  • Five (5+) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience supervising in a large clinic and/or infusion environment.
  • Leadership experience in an unionized environment.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • This is a 363/365 days a year operation. Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $136,600 - $267,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $65.42 - $128.16

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
