Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree and an Oklahoma nursing license.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise Nurses, Day, Evening, & Night DCS staff and coordinate shifts.

  • Identify and address patient care issues with the DON and maintain disciplinary records.
  • Assist in patient interventions during emergencies and staffing shortages.
  • Oversee admissions, discharges, and rounds; communicate updates to staff.
  • Participate in Nursing QAPI projects and hospital committees.
  • Contribute to interdepartmental meetings and staffing improvements.

Job description

J.D. McCarty Center is looking for a Nurse Manager to join and enhance our workforce. This person will be responsible for overseeing professional nursing care and direct care services provided to in‑patients with a developmental disability birth-21 years of age while ensuring services provided are in compliance with CMS guidelines, the Nurse Practice Act and State Health Department standards to include administration of medications, treatments and appropriate documentation.

Salary Range

$65,000 to $85,000 per year and will be based on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises Nurses, Day, Evening, & Night DCS employees. Responsible for coordinating these shifts to include, approval of leave ensuring appropriate Nurse and DCS coverage, nursing coverage for emergencies, compliance with hospital policies & procedures, coordination of field trips & completion of daily work. Makes Nursing & DCS assignments for outside patient appointments & field trips. Creates and maintains Nurse and DCS working schedules. Oversee the completion of attendance feedback for nurses and DCS directly supervised
  • Provide leadership for Nurses and DCS within their direct supervision. Completes Employee Reviews providing work performance feedback for all directly supervised. Ensures mandatory education and training are current. Prepares and arranges additional in-services as needed. Ensures all competency training/education is completed within 6 months of employment. Identifies, provides &/or coordinates additional patient care training & other requested education requirements to Nurses or DCS on a routine or identified basis. Participates in hospital-wide orientation program. Participates in the professional development of DCS and Nurses
  • Works to identify & investigate patient care issues within designated time frame. Presents recommendation of corrective action to DON prior to taking action. Maintains Nurses & DCS employee disciplinary records. Meets and collaborates w/ DON & fellow Nurse Managers to communicate relevant patient care, nursing, safety, & staffing issues & coordinates any follow-up activities. Participates in Nursing Admin On-Call to ensure 24-hour nursing administration coverage
  • Assists hospital unit Nurses’ in providing patient intervention/care when a critical &/or emergency situation occurs. Ensures appropriate action i.e. first aid, CPR, physician contact, vitals, safe & quality patient care is implemented. Provides hospital unit nursing care in the event of a nursing employee shortage or increased acuity need. Assists hospital unit Nurses in safe & appropriate intervention, notification of personnel, obtainment of orders, & completion of documentation as outlined in hospital policies & procedures
  • Responsible for reviewing, knowing & maintaining awareness of medical, therapeutic & behavioral goals for inpatients. Assists hospital unit Nurses & DCS in the coordination of patient care issues w/interdisciplinary team members. Communicates w/patient team members to ensure patient issues are addressed appropriately and positive outcomes & established treatment goals are met
  • Works closely w/ hospital unit Nurses, & interdisciplinary team to ensure patient admissions, discharges, & furloughs are performed in accordance w/ hospital policies & procedures. Completes daily rounds. Communicates info to & from Nurses & DCS to include patient care info, staffing info & issues, updates on management decisions, training info, patient & bed assignments, general hospital info, etc. Conducts regular meetings with hospital unit to discuss patient and employee needs & areas for improvement. Identifies areas of need and plans for improvement, present to DON & management team
  • Serves on the following committees as primary or secondary: Admission Review Committee, Behavior Staffing, Grievance Committee, Quality Assessment & Performance Improvement Committee, Safety Committee, Grievance Committee, Infection Control Committee, Executive/Med Dental, Physician & Mini Staffing, Medical Records, Hospital Unit Nurse Staff Meeting, & any additional interdepartmental collaborative meetings. Participates in all designated meetings and committees. Presents patient medical/nursing information to attending physician and clinical team. Communicates any necessary information to hospital unit nurses & nursing admin nurses
  • Participates in the development & implementation of the Nursing QAPI projects & Nursing QAPI meetings to include data collection, monitoring, & oversight of data collection. Identifies areas warranting improvement & may participate in the design & implementation of quality improvement projects
  • Participates in the Admission Review Committee. Asks questions & determines if additional information is required prior to final approval for admission. Makes inpatient admission recommendations, expresses concerns, and presents admission guidelines to the DON & committee
  • Participates in behavior staffing committee ensuring behavioral care components are identified & developed appropriately & realistically for the in-patient population. Ensures behavioral components are appropriately incorporated in the in-patient nursing care plans. Collaborates and communicates patient behavioral care components with clinical team

Candidate must be willing to flex their hours in times of need. Position rotates 24/7 on-call coverage with Nurse Admin nurses.

Requirements
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree and a license to practice nursing in the State of Oklahoma
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of professional nursing experience
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be in good standing with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing
About J.D. McCarty Center:

J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acre s campus includes a on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in‑p‑atient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs.
